BODY
OUR BODY IS OUR TEMPLE. WE LEARN HOW TO LOVE IT.
Congratulations! You took human birth… along with it the infinite joys & sorrows, pains & pleasures, trials & tribulations of life in the material world.
We quickly learn that this body is our only one (for this lifetime) so we treat it as the precious jewell that it is.
As we are equipped with a body, so must we equip or body with a practice/play. Having some sort of physical pursuit will not only allow us to maximize the functioning of our body, but will also give us the opportunity to enjoy our bodies.
Practices like Asana, Tai Chi, surf, dance, are unlimited in number — we will each be drawn to specific ones due to our own unique dispositions and interests, and at specific times in our lives. SO what worked once for us, may not work later. What once did not work for us, may serve us later. As the body is constantly in flux, so we must be able to listen to the body, and adapt accordingly.
This is Selfish Yoga — to practice/play with Love
Whatever our practice/play may be, the most important thing is that we do it with Love. Simply put, we must first enjoy our practice/play. Only once we are truly enjoying, may we progress.
Our physical practice/play will then serve as our gateway — as our physical connection to our ultimate goal (Bliss, Truth, Peace, God, whatever your desire may be). The easiest way to practice Self-Love in the body is to find a physical outlet which makes us feel most ALIVE, then do it as much as possible.
Our body is our vehicle, we must learn to treat it with Love and respect. In Selfish yoga, the body itself IS THE PRACTICE/PLAY. In this way, we live in a constant dialogue with our body. And in this way, each and every moment is an opportunity to practice SELF-LOVE in the body.
We practice Self-Love by opting for almond instead of whole milk. We practice Self-Love by applying extra-strength SPF sunscreen. We practice Self-Love by going to bed early. We practice Self-Love by lingering at the breakfast table before starting our day. We practice self love the moment we listen and connect to our bodies.
